This is a pretty good rundown of how recent developments are coming together to, if not create AGI, to create something that is indistinguishable from it by most measures. However, I think it’s critical to reinforce that we shouldn’t over-index on AGI. The current models are strong enough to drive an overwhelming level of change. We can’t afford a moments delay in tackling the policy, legal, ethical, and alignment issues that confront us now. These challenges will only grow as we approach AGI (or something like it).
